How much does a court transcript cost in Ontario?
The price per page is set by regulation, so every certified transcriptionist charges the same — see the rate table. As a rough guide with standard electronic delivery: a short routine appearance is often about $95–$250, a half day about $470–$790, and a full day about $945–$1,575. There's a $25 minimum per order.
How long does it take to get a transcript?
Standard delivery usually takes about 3 to 4 weeks. In a hurry? Regulated rush options deliver in 5 business days or 24 hours at a higher rate per page. Some orders take longer — for example, a judge's reasons must be reviewed before release (see below).
What information do I need to order?
The courthouse, the date or dates, and what part you need. A court file number helps but isn't required. If you're missing something, submit anyway — your transcriptionist sorts out the rest with you.
What if I don't know my court file number?
That's common. Call the courthouse and ask — staff can look it up. Find the phone number in the Ontario court directory. Or just submit without it.
What is an Authorized Court Transcriptionist (ACT)?
ACTs are the only people allowed to produce and certify official Ontario court transcripts. They've met the province's requirements and are listed on the official registry. Courts only accept certified transcripts.
Can I get the audio recording instead?
That's a different process with strict rules — court recordings aren't freely released, and some need a judge's permission. We only handle transcripts. Ask the courthouse about access to recordings.
I need a transcript for an appeal — is anything different?
Yes — appeal transcripts have special formatting and certification requirements, and deadlines matter. Pick "An appeal" on the form so your transcriptionist prepares it correctly from the start.
Why do a judge's reasons take longer?
When you order a judge's reasons for judgment, the judge reviews and approves the transcript before it's released. That's normal and required — build it into your timeline.
What if the transcript already exists?
Then you pay much cheaper copy rates instead of first-production rates. Your transcriptionist is required to check — and to charge you the copy rate if a certified transcript already exists.
Is this the official government registry?
No. We're an independent ordering service — not the Ministry of the Attorney General, and not the official registry, which lives at courttranscriptontario.ca. Using us is free: transcriptionists pay us a small flat referral fee when an order books, and since rates are set by regulation, that fee never changes what you pay.
